Due to the high risk of contagion, some religious rites were avoided, like the gathering of many comforters, taking the farewell look at the deceased, and almost cancelling the decrees of religious burial and grief, which are spiritual remedies for those who lost their loved ones. Since both Judaism and Islam forbid cremation, the burial rites should be strictly monitored, and the decision to hold a modified mourning tribute for the deceased must be taken cautiously and in cooperation with the competent medical authority. But how does the new funeral regulation coincide with religious values? And how could Jewish and Islamic traditions about washing the infected deceased’s body, burial shroud, coffin, cemetery, initial mourning period, and other customs be preventive healthcare instructions? This article is attempting to answer these questions in light of Biblical and Quranic teachings.
Abdulrahman Obeid Hussein Tazul Islam Adnan Mohd Shalash Copyright (c) 2023 Abdulrahman Obeid Hussein, Tazul Islam, Adnan Mohd Shalash https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by/4.0 2023-12-01 2023-12-01 19 2 230 236 10.33102/jmqs.v19i2.406 Pendekatan Sa'id Nursi Terhadap Penghuni Penjara Denizli di Turkiye Berpandunkan al-Quran dan Sunnah https://jmqs.usim.edu.my/index.php/jmqs/article/view/422
Sa'id Nursi is renowned globally for his contributions to the Muslim community, particularly in Turkiye, where he is esteemed by many. This qualitative study seeks to examine Sa'id Nursi's role in disseminating the message of da’wah and fostering Islamic awareness among the inmates at Denizli Prison, Turkiye. This holds significance as addressing criminal behavior and preventing recidivism should encompass more than punitive measures alone. The focus should also extend to rehabilitation, especially within an Islamic context, as an effective rehabilitation program can deter individuals from relapsing into criminal activities. Employing an inductive approach, this article delves into Sa'id Nursi's biography and his contributions, using a descriptive method to analyse and elaborate on the prominent aspects of his approach. Primary sources, notably Rasa'il al-Nur (Epistles of Light) penned during his incarceration, including the Fruits Epistle and the Rasa'il al-Nur website, along with secondary sources such as journals from library archives, form the basis of this study. It is instrumental in spotlighting his post-incarceration contributions through an Islamic lens within the prison context. Research affirms Nursi's commitment to imparting an Islamic message that resonates within Muslim life at Denizli Prison, Turkiye. The findings underscore Nursi's contributions through an Islamic approach that emphasizes recognition of Allah SWT and the strengthening of faith in the hereafter. He achieves this by drawing on Quranic verses and Hadiths, employing the approach of bi-l-hikmah (wisdom), and engaging inmates' conscience through reflective practices such as tafakkur (contemplation). Nursi frequently utilizes majaz (metaphor) or dharb al-amthal (analogy) and al-muqaranah (comparison) to elucidate truths or facts in his teachings.
The Quran is a great miracle that was revealed to the Prophet Muhammad, may God bless him and grant him peace, to the point that every letter in the Quran is rewarded for reciting Muslims who believe in it. Reading using the art of melody belongs to a branch of the sciences of the Quran that cannot be separated. When reading the Quran, this art has had a profound impact on the hearts of the nation if it is read with good and correct rules. The art of reciting the Quran existed in the time of the Prophet Muhammad, peace and blessings of God be upon him, and now it has spread throughout the world. There are different names for the art of reciting the Quran, including the science of Quranic maqamat. This science - the science of Quranic maqamat - is also well-known and famous in Indonesia, and there are many Islamic institutes that make the science of maqamat their main curriculum, including the Bait al-Qurra’ Institute in Jakarta. As for the method of teaching the science of the Qur’an, it is diverse and evolves with time until knowing the Qur’an’s positions has become easier for everyone to learn. This research follows the qualitative analytical method by collecting data through personal interviews and referring to original and secondary sources. One of the results of the research is knowledge of the history of Quranic maqam science in the Malay Archipelago, especially Indonesia. Then the readers must not deviate from the rules of intonation and the exits of the letters. Therefore, it is important for readers to improve the rules of tajweed before learning the science of Quranic maqamat.
This study deals with one of the most important topics of interpretation of the Holy Qur'an, which is the unity of objectivity in the Holy Qur'an. Tafsīr al-Mawḍuꜥī is a type of interpretation that was not present in the works of earlier scholars and has not properly developed through the work and efforts of contemporary researchers because it still requires rooting and a methodology capable of achieving the main goals of the Qur'an as the book of guidance and a way of life for people in every era. The study aims to show that the Tafsīr al-Mawḍuꜥī is the most appropriate to follow in our contemporary era in dealing with the unity of the topics of the Qur'an or some Surahs, as it reveals one of the aspects of the miracle of the Qur’an about man, the universe, and life: the Qur'an is a comprehensive and immortal cognitive miracle. The study aims to highlight the beauty of the Holy Qur'an in its consistency and coherence of its verses with each other, as if it were one surah revealed at the same time and not over extended periods. The researchers used in this study two approaches: the inductive approach and the analytical method, where we collected in the inductive approach verses from three surahs, which are al-Ghafir, al-Saffat and al-Naziat, and then analysed them to show and prove their consistency with each other and their interdependence in a very wonderful thematic unity.
Abdoul Karim Toure Norzulaili Mohd Ghazali Mesbahul Hoque Copyright (c) 2023 Abdoul Karim Toure, Norzulaili Mohd Ghazali, Mesbahul Hoque https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by/4.0 2023-12-01 2023-12-01 19 2 274 291 10.33102/jmqs.v19i2.433 The Role of Prayer in Seeking Mercy and Guidance: Lessons from the Tafsir of Surah al-Fatihah https://jmqs.usim.edu.my/index.php/jmqs/article/view/434
This research underscores the paramount role of prayer in believers' lives, emphasising its significance as a direct means of communication with the Creator. Focused on Surah Al-Fatihah, the "Mother of the Quran," the study delves into prayer for seeking guidance and mercy. Rooted in the Quranic command to invoke Allah and highlighted by various scholars, prayer, according to tafsir, encompasses worship, seeking help, supplication, and ritual prayer. The research employs a literature review method to explore interpretations of Surah Al-Fatihah, contributing nuanced perspectives on prayer's role. Emphasising spiritual needs over worldly matters, the study offers valuable insights for enriching worship and deepening understanding. Because Surah Al-Fatihah is so important in Islamic worship and its ending is all about supplications, the study concludes that it was successful in giving a deep understanding of prayer in this basic Surah, which had an effect on daily life and spiritual connections.
Asa Nur Fadhilah Andri Nirwana Copyright (c) 2023 Asa Nur Fadhilah, Andri Nirwana https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by/4.0 2023-12-01 2023-12-01 19 2 292 298 10.33102/jmqs.v19i2.434 الأربعينات الحديثية في أدبيات ماليزيا https://jmqs.usim.edu.my/index.php/jmqs/article/view/436
The Forty-Hadith is one of the most famous compilations of hadith books and the most authored and diverse. He is seen advising the use of specific natural ingredients such as honey, dates, and black seed (al-ḥabbat al-sawdāʾ) to his companions as a solution to their health issues. In recent times, some individuals have exploited the sanctity associated with the words of the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) for the purpose of promoting their products containing ingredients mentioned in the hadith. Certain traders who sell these ingredients directly have also been observed to publicise their businesses using the same modus operandi. Moreover, some general statements from the sayings of the Prophet (peace be upon him) have been used indiscriminately to capture the interest of buyers without relying on the understanding of Islamic scholars and modern medical experts when dealing with relevant hadith. The purpose of this article is to highlight the fundamentals of prophetic medicine as described in Maḥmūd Nāẓim al-Nasīmī ‘s book al-Ṭibb al-Nabawī wa al-ꜥIlm al-Ḥadīth. The analysis is carried out through a deductive approach and a comparison of the principles he proposed with the commentary of Islamic scholars in their hadith lecture works. The study found that al-Nasīmī’s claims about prophetic medicine, like the idea that it includes both revelation and ijtihad (independent reasoning), are in line with what some early Islamic scholars thought.
Surah al-Kahf holds a significant place among the chapters of the Holy Qur’an. Numerous prophetic traditions emphasise its excellence. Notably, reciting or memorising the initial ten verses of this surah serves as a safeguard against the trials and tribulations posed by the antichrist. These verses contain profound layers of meaning, such that anyone who recites or memorises them by heart will never fall into the antichrist's temptation, and it becomes easy for him to confront this great trial with patience. This research delves into the exploration of the virtues attributed to this surah within authentic prophetic traditions. Subsequently, the characteristics of this surah, as extracted from these ahadith, are compiled in this study. The researcher also identifies and scrutinises any misconceptions or superstitions among these attributes that deviate from true Islamic beliefs and principles while also conflicting with Islamic etiquette. In this study, the researcher has adopted two approaches: the inductive approach and the analytical approach. The inductive approach was utilised to compile and track the authentic ahadith pertaining to the excellence and characteristics of this surah. On the other hand, an analytical approach was employed to analyse the texts of these ahadith and extract their underlying meanings. The study has been concluded with significant outcomes.
Syed Abdul Majid Ghouri Copyright (c) 2023 Syed Abdul Majid Ghouri https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by/4.0 2023-12-01 2023-12-01 19 2 342 365 10.33102/jmqs.v19i2.443 Influence Of Cultural Context On Qur’ānic Translation: Analyzing Social Justice Interpretations In Sura An-Nisā’ Verse 58 https://jmqs.usim.edu.my/index.php/jmqs/article/view/446
This paper presents a detailed comparative analysis of Sura An-Nisā’, Verse 58 in the Qur’ān, as interpreted by Marmaduke Pickthall, Muhammad Abdel Haleem, and T.B. Irving. It explores how cultural contexts shape their translations and the consequent interpretations of 'Adl (justice) within Islamic doctrine. Employing translational paradigms such as equivalence, Skopos theory, and the cultural turn, the research reveals significant nuances in each translator’s approach, reflecting their distinct cultural backgrounds. The findings illustrate the complexity of translating Qur’ānic verses and underscore the impact of cultural influences on interpreting key Islamic concepts. This study contributes to a deeper understanding of the role of translation in shaping perceptions of social justice in Islam and highlights the need for culturally informed translations to facilitate accurate comprehension of religious texts.
This study is summed up by clarifying an important issue related to the hadith of separation, which has preoccupied many researchers, past and present, between confirming this hadith and a statement that negates it. It has addressed an important aspect, which is that the wrong interpretation of the problems contained in hadith’s words is the reason for its rejection in the past and what caused much reliance on it. Some extremists regard it as a legal document, interpreting its words according to their whims. The problems mentioned in the hadith have been narrowed down, and the correct position and the true intention consistent with the foundations of our faith and Islamic thought, which are far from extremism and infidelity, have been clarified. Then I explained the criticism of many scholars of the wording of the hadith, ancient and modern, and the important result that I reached through this research is that the hadith of separation is an authentic hadith and it is according to the condition of Imam Muslim, even if they did not see it in his Sahih, but the wording contained in the hadith must be interpreted according to its true meaning, which was intended by the Prophet. May God bless him and grant him peace, away from infidelity, immorality, and extremism. As for the research methodology, the researcher will use the inductive approach to extrapolate everything related to the Hadith of Separation in its chain of transmission and text, and then the descriptive and analytical approach to clarify the true meaning of the wording of the Hadith of Separation in a way that is consistent with the foundations of our faith and far from extremism and fanaticism. The importance of this study lies in showing that the wrong interpretation of the words of the hadith of separation leads to extremism and fanaticism, and that the interpretation is consistent with the foundations of the Islamic faith, which is that the words of the hadith do not give us the right to judge violators as being in Hell.
Qais Salem Almaaitah Copyright (c) 2023 Qais Salem Almaaitah https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by/4.0 2023-12-01 2023-12-01 19 2 388 412 10.33102/jmqs.v19i2.450 Sumbangan Pengajian Ilmu Qiraat di Era Moden https://jmqs.usim.edu.my/index.php/jmqs/article/view/452
This article aims to reveal the contribution and importance of the study of Qirāʾat science in the modern era. Muslim scholars have emphasised it since immemorial times, even before several other sciences were discussed. This article conducts qualitative research and will reveal several reasons why the science of Qirāʾat needs to continue to be maintained. Although the description does not cover all aspects, it is hoped that it can represent and illustrate the purpose of this article. The research results found that the study of Qirāʾat science is a form of preserving the special qualities of al-Quran al-Karim. It is a reference and source that has an important role in Islamic studies such as tafsir, fiqh, and language. Apart from that, it can also oppose every challenge and accusation made by the enemies of Islam that aim to undermine the honour and dignity of the Qur'an. So, the study of the science of Qirāʾat in the modern era is an important thing that must be continued, because the extinction of the science of Qirāʾat will result in the burial of some of the words of Allah S.W.T. and the disappearance of the treasures of knowledge. It could even be the loss of a way of life for Muslims.
Gumaa Ahmed Himmad Ahmad Baha’ bin Mokhtar Rifqi Hidayatil Copyright (c) 2023 Gumaa Ahmed Himmad, Ahmad Baha’ bin Mokhtar, Rifqi Hidayatil https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by/4.0 2023-12-01 2023-12-01 19 2 413 433 10.33102/jmqs.v19i2.452
