The Noble Qurʾān is a universal book, and today's problems are on a global scale. Therefore, we require a universal book that can effectively address these issues. There are hundreds of Qurʾānic verses that mention how this great universe is managed and controlled by Allāh according to rules and laws, which, if we study them, will help us to find solutions to these problems. Furthermore, we should deal with the Qurʾān in a positive way and ponder on its verses properly to solve these problems; therefore, it is compulsory for the scholars who are interested in contemporary contemporarily Qurʾānic studies to formulate our problems, dilemmas, and queries and present them to the Noble Qurʾān in order to find suitable solutions for our current age as the previous generations could do so. Furthermore, these solutions have significantly enhanced both individual and collective wellbeing, as well as the field of building and urbanism. The researcher aims to establish the most crucial practical steps by analyzing the Noble Qur'an using both inductive and deductive methods. The findings presented in this article are the outcomes of a thematic analysis of literature obtained from the Noble Qurʾān. The author concluded that: (1) Contemplation is looking at what is behind words in terms of meanings, lessons, purposes, and their consequences in the soul and in society; (2) formulating four methodological steps, supported by twenty practical methods, to assist in contemplating the Noble Qurʾān.
Abdelali Bey Zekkoub Copyright (c) 2024 Abdelali Bey Zekkoub https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by/4.0 https://jmqs.usim.edu.my/index.php/jmqs/article/view/418 Sat, 01 Jun 2024 00:00:00 +0800 Sayyid Qutb's Interpretations: A Focus on Political Concepts https://jmqs.usim.edu.my/index.php/jmqs/article/view/424
Sayyid Qutb's thinking influenced many Islamic scholars. His book, Fi Zilal al-Qur'an, is the greatest work and influential among the world's Muslim community. This study aims to identify Sayyid Qutb's interpretation, especially political verses in Fi Zilal al-Qur'an, and describe the meaning of politics from his perspective. Establishing an Islamic state is crucial for the implementation of sharia, as political power is necessary for its implementation. Furthermore, it is crucial to understand the correct methods of interpreting Qur'anic verses from modern exegetes. We employ a qualitative approach in our writing, concentrating on library research and gathering information from diverse sources of literature. The approach used is multidisciplinary, encompassing interpretive, historical, and sociological perspectives. The study utilizes primary data, specifically the book Fi Zilal al-Qur'an, as well as secondary data, which includes materials related to Fi Zilal al-Qur'an and sources that can support this writing. The research reveals that Sayyid Qutb employed the tahlili method to interpret the Islamic political verses. Subsequently, Sayyid Qutb's interpretation of politics posits that the government bears the political responsibility of managing and overseeing the affairs of Muslims. Next, the first principle of reign Islam emphasizes who is worthy to be called ulul amri, followed by upholding Allah’s law and, finally, being fair to all human groups.
This brief study examines the science of Quranic script derived from the manuscripts of various regions, starting from the systematic work undertaken by the Rightly Guided Caliph Uthman ibn Affan (may Allah be pleased with him) until it matured into a well-established discipline. It explores how this science influenced ancient Quranic manuscripts and aims to elucidate the technical and scientific specifications of the Quranic scripts from different regions and their impact on ancient manuscripts. The study is organized into three sections, preceded by an introduction and followed by a conclusion and results. The analytical method was employed to present its issues. The study reached significant conclusions, including that the books on Quranic script are considered reliable references in describing the scriptural phenomena of regional Quranic manuscripts and are the primary sources for judging the characteristics of ancient Quranic manuscripts.
Yousef Mohammed Abdo Mohammed Al-Awadhy, Adel Abushaar Copyright (c) 2024 Yousef Mohammed Abdo Mohammed Al-Awadhy, Adel Abushaar https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by/4.0 https://jmqs.usim.edu.my/index.php/jmqs/article/view/455 Sat, 01 Jun 2024 00:00:00 +0800 Abrogation in the Quran: Perspectives of Jamal Al-Banna and Jasser Auda https://jmqs.usim.edu.my/index.php/jmqs/article/view/464
This study aims to examine the opinions of Jamal al-Banna and Jasser Auda regarding abrogation in religious texts. Both figures are included in this study because they have different backgrounds of thought: Jamal al-Banna is known for his liberal thinking, while Jasser Auda is known as a progressive thinker who still follows the style of thought of mainstream scholars. This research is a qualitative-extractive study, with the main references being their two books related to abrogation: Tafnid Da’wa al-Naskh fi al-Quran al-Karim by Jamal al-Banna and Naqd Nadzariyyah al-Naskh: Bahtsun fi Fiqh Maqashid al-Syariah by Jasser Auda. Based on the research results, both argue that there is no abrogation in religious texts. One of the reasons they provide is that there is no strong evidence explaining the existence of abrogation in religious texts, especially given the disputes among scholars regarding the abrogating verse and the abrogated verse. According to both of them, abrogation has implications for changes in the shariah (Islamic law), so the evidence supporting its existence must be strong.
The concept of religious intertextuality involves integrating selected religious texts, whether from the Holy Quran or the noble Prophetic Hadith, into the original text of a novel. These texts are carefully chosen to harmonise with the narrative context and serve a cognitive or artistic purpose. It is undeniable that the Holy Quran and the Prophetic Hadith are among the most significant sources from which both ancient and contemporary novelists have drawn inspiration, prominently featuring them in their creative works. Consequently, this research aims to investigate the phenomenon of religious intertextuality in Naguib Mahfouz’s novel “Cairo Modern,” intending to comprehend the reason for its employment within the novel’s texts. The research follows a descriptive-analytical statistical methodology. Among the key findings are that Naguib Mahfouz was significantly influenced by Islamic culture, as evidenced by his extensive incorporation of religious texts from the Holy Quran and the Prophetic Hadith in “Cairo Modern.” This influence extends to shaping the events and narrative structure, enriching the fictional texts to generate new meanings. The results also suggest that creative writing critically depends on such literary vitality derived from the mechanism of interweaving and blending known texts, known as intertextuality. This process proves to be a crucial and dynamic tool for both authors and readers alike.
Mohd Azizul Rahman bin Zabidin, Ebrahim Mohammad Ahmad Eldesoky, Ummu-Hani Abas, Abdul Ghani bin Md Din Copyright (c) 2024 Mohd Azizul Rahman bin Zabidin, Ebrahim Mohammad Ahmad Eldesoky, Ummu-Hani Abas, Abdul Ghani bin Md Din https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by/4.0 https://jmqs.usim.edu.my/index.php/jmqs/article/view/470 Sat, 01 Jun 2024 00:00:00 +0800 إشكالية حديث الجارية: دراسةٌ حديثيةٌ نقديةٌ https://jmqs.usim.edu.my/index.php/jmqs/article/view/477
The noble Islamic religion is the religion that Allah has chosen for His servants and commanded us to follow. There is no real contradiction in its definitive texts. This research, in fact, stems from the doctrinal problem caused by the hadith al-jariyah (Hadith of the Slave Girl). In the Islamic creed, as affirmed by the early generations and later scholars, and agreed upon by the Islamic nation, it is established that Allah, the Exalted, does not resemble His creations. He is the Creator of space, time, the heavens, and the earth, and therefore, He does not need space, time, or anything from His creations. It is impossible for Him, Glorified and Exalted, to be contained or confined in the heavens or any other place. However, the apparent meaning of the hadith al-jariyah is misleading, suggesting a resemblance between Allah and His creation. It implies that Allah, the Exalted, is contained in a place, namely the heavens. This contradicts the clear verses of the Quran and authentic Hadith, as well as the consensus established in the works of scholars and the rational evidence that Allah does not need anything from His creations. In this study, the researcher employed three methodologies: the inductive approach, analytical methodology, and critical methodology. The inductive approach was used to explore the foundational heritage for information related to the topic from available books. The analytical methodology was employed to scrutinize the extracted information from its sources, aiming to understand its elements and intricacies in order to place it in its proper context. The critical methodology involved reviewing the extracted information from its sources to verify the accuracy of its elements and the soundness of its content, integrating them into the overall analysis. From this research, it is found that the hadith al-jariyah cannot be relied upon to prove the concept of place or any limitation for Allah, as it reveals the extent of disturbance and complexities within it, preventing its use as evidence in doctrinal matters.
Mohd. The Holy Quran, rich in multi-faceted meanings, often leads to varying interpretations among scholars, especially concerning verses with geographical implications. This research focuses on how geographical context influences the understanding and preference for specific interpretations over others in these two significant battles. By analyzing the geographical elements mentioned in the Quranic verses, the study aims to provide a more precise understanding of the locations and events described, thereby resolving discrepancies in interpretations. The research is unique in its approach to incorporating modern geographical tools and digital mapping technologies to enhance the study of Quranic exegesis. Through detailed examination of the relevant verses, the study identifies the role of geographical context in shaping the historical and theological narratives of the Battles of Uhud and Al-Ahzab. The findings suggest that a deeper geographical awareness can significantly contribute to resolving interpretative conflicts and advancing the scholarly understanding of these events. This work not only underscores the importance of geographical considerations in Quranic exegesis but also opens new avenues for research that integrates traditional Islamic scholarship with contemporary geographical analysis. The study concludes with recommendations for further research in the integration of geographical data into the interpretation of other Quranic verses with similar implications.
This study examines the terminology used in the Holy Quran to describe scholars and religious specialists across various legal contexts. It aims to collect these terms, elucidate their meanings and occurrences, and emphasize the critical role of scholars in societal development. Through an inductive approach, the researcher gathered the different terms and analysed their contextual relevance, while the analytical approach clarified their relationship to their respective contexts. The deductive approach was employed to highlight the scholars’ roles, responsibilities, and the obligations of the people towards them. The study’s findings underscore the diversity of terms used in the Quran, reflecting differences in knowledge and the legal contexts in which they appear. It also highlights the scholars’ essential role in society, including clarifying truths, resolving disputes, and ensuring sound understanding. Ultimately, the Quran positions scholars as pivotal figures in building civilizations, serving as both religious and worldly leaders who guide people to the Creator and act as a safeguard for correct interpretation and unity across generations.
Ali Abdallah Ahmad AL Hrerat Copyright (c) 2024 Ali Abdallah Ahmad AL Hrerat https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by/4.0 https://jmqs.usim.edu.my/index.php/jmqs/article/view/483 Sat, 01 Jun 2024 00:00:00 +0800 Pelupusan Al-Quran di Malaysia: Suatu Tinjauan Awal Pelupusan Secara Penanaman https://jmqs.usim.edu.my/index.php/jmqs/article/view/488
Preserving the sanctity of the Quran is an obligation for the Muslims. The disposal of the Quran in accordance with Shariah is a measure taken to preserve the sanctity of this holy book from ancient times until now. In Malaysia, disposal of the Quran is carried out for copies that are misprinted, torn, damaged, worn out, or expired. Furthermore, the issue of Quranic texts being damaged due to floods causing them to become wet, swollen, and muddy has increased recently. Generally, in Malaysia, the burning method is used to dispose this holy book, but damaged copies due to floods pose challenges for such disposal by burning. Therefore, this study aims to identify a number of methods for the disposal of the Quran based on the views of relevant Muslim scholars to be used post-flood disasters. This research adopts a qualitative approach with document analysis as the data collection instrument. The findings reveal that there are several Quran disposal methods discussed by Muslim scholars. The study also found that burning and deinking methods have been implemented in several states in Malaysia. Meanwhile, although the method of burying was proclaimed at the national level through the 30th MKI Conference in 1992, it has not yet been practiced through the relevant agencies. Thus, the study hopes that the method of burial can be presented as an alternative solution to the issue of disposing of the Quran post-flood disasters.
Muhammad Asyraf bin Mohd Zamri, Mohd Zahir Abdul Rahman, Muhamad Hafizuddin bin Mohamed Najid, Mohd Zohdi bin Mohd Amin, Norakyairee bin Mohd Raus, Latiffah Karim Copyright (c) 2024 Muhammad Asyraf bin Mohd Zamri , Mohd Zahir Abdul Rahman, Muhamad Hafizuddin bin Mohamed Najid, Mohd Zohdi bin Mohd Amin, Norakyairee bin Mohd Raus, Latiffah Karim https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by/4.0 https://jmqs.usim.edu.my/index.php/jmqs/article/view/488 Sat, 01 Jun 2024 00:00:00 +0800
