This paper examines the pressing current topic of the moral accountability of troops and subordinates who obey repressive dictators and criminal leaders. Numerous individuals in such roles, whether among Jews, Christians, or others, attempt to exonerate themselves by asserting that they are only following orders or executing their official responsibilities. However, would this rationale benefit them on the Day of Resurrection? The Qurʾān addresses this issue in various passages, depicting the characteristics of tyrannical leaders and their adherents, cautioning against their imitation in this world (dunyā) and clarifying the severe and painful repercussions they will endure in the Hereafter (ākhirah), which they will all collectively experience. This research examines the Qurʾān's approach of this issue, particularly within its tales, with a specific focus on the account of Pharaoh’s army as a representative example. This research aims to address critical enquiries regarding complicity, obedience, and responsibility through the analysis of character qualities and final consequences. This emphasises detrimental habits that sustain injustice and provides essential insights that might aid in liberating individuals and society from the constraints of subservience to oppressors and criminals.
