This article examines the “text” approach (maslak al-naṣṣ) as a principal methodological pathway for deriving the objectives of the Qur’an (maqāṣid al-Qurʾān). It begins from the observation that contemporary Qur’anic studies have not yet given sufficient systematic attention to the extraction of Qur’anic purposes, wisdoms, and justificatory meanings through recognised methodological procedures, resulting in an underdeveloped use of the interpretive pathways that disclose Qur’anic objectives. The study therefore aims to formulate a coherent methodological account of the textual approach by identifying the linguistic indicators, rhetorical patterns, and explicit causative structures through which the Qur’an communicates rulings, values, and higher purposes. Methodologically, the research adopts a qualitative design grounded in descriptive and inductive analysis. It gathers relevant theoretical discussions on maqāṣid al-Qurʾān and examines selected Qur’anic examples in order to analyse how textual expressions, contextual placement, and linguistic markers of causality contribute to the disclosure of purposive meaning. The findings demonstrate that the textual approach offers an integrated and disciplined framework for deriving Qur’anic objectives, particularly when explicit textual indicators, causal particles, explanatory clauses, and rhetorical emphasis are read in relation to their immediate and broader Qur’anic contexts. The study further shows that this approach strengthens maqāṣid-oriented interpretation by linking linguistic structure to purposive signification, thereby making the extraction of Qur’anic wisdoms more precise, accessible, and methodologically controllable. In discussion, the article argues that activating the textual approach can reduce excessive reliance on speculative interpretation, limit juristic disagreement caused by weak inferential assumptions, and support a renewed Qur’anic hermeneutic that remains faithful to textual evidence while responsive to contemporary scholarly needs.
