Abstract

This study revolves around investigating prophetic sayings related to preventive medication in the components of food and drink and the scientific facts of the ahadith. The researcher defined the definition of preventive medication, studied the related ahadith and categorized them according to their scientific implications. Then the authenticity and weakness of the ahadith is analyzed in accordance with the rules governing the criticism of hadith. In each hadith, matters relating to preventive medication were then discussed from the scientific aspect while taking into account its compliance with Shari'ah. Findings of the study revealed that the Holy Prophet (peace be upon him) was very concerned on every aspect of human life including that of health. This was yielded from ahadith that infused preventive knowledge that would prevent and also heal many illnesses. This finding is also affirmed by the modern science. As a result, the prophecy of the final Prophet is clearly evident. Finally, the researcher recommends Muslim medical doctors to further explore the knowledge of prophetic medication, partly because there are many illnesses and medications that the Prophet prescribed which are yet to be discovered in modern science.
