This paper deals with the issue of Islamic military power and its role in achieving peace in the present day world. Specifically, the verse on the concept of military preparation by the Muslims as contained in surah al-Anfal is focused for discussion. This is followed by analyzing the embodiment of this Quranic concept by the Prophet during his lifetime and refutation against those who accused Islam as a religion of terror. As a matter of fact, Islam is a religion of love, peace and mercy as can be testified from history. Other issues discussed here include Islamic methods for achieving peace, Islamic justice in treaties as well as Islamic values for using power. Muslim military capacity building functions not only for defense, but more importantly, as a means to spread the message of Islam to the whole world.
