Abstract

Mental health challenges have become increasingly alarming within contemporary Muslim societies, which are often confronted with mounting life pressures, spiritual voids, and moral confusion. Against this backdrop, the Islamic psychospiritual approach offers a profound and holistic intervention, deeply anchored in the teachings of the Qur’an and the Sunnah. This article explores the significance of majlis zikir (dhikr assemblies) as a psychospiritual therapy that fosters inner tranquillity, emotional resilience, and overall mental well-being. Employing a content analysis methodology, the study examines selected Quranic verses, authentic Hadith, classical scholarly perspectives, and contemporary empirical research on the effects of collective dhikr. The findings reveal that dhikr assemblies function as communal spaces for spiritual healing, empowering individuals to manage psychological distress, cultivate inner strength, and reinforce their connection to Allah ﷻ and to their wider community. Accordingly, this study advocates for the revitalization of dhikr assemblies as an integral spiritual support mechanism within modern mental health care frameworks, in harmony with the comprehensive Islamic vision of human well-being.
